Shafting, ASME design of transmission shafts, keys, design of square and rectangular key joints, welded joints, modes of failure, strength and efficiency of the joint, Springs: stresses in coil springs of round and square, deflection of coil springs, design of compression and tension springs. Flexible machine elements: Flat belt, V belt drives rope drives, Gears: spur, helical, bevel, worm gear, nomenclature, Lewis equation, Lewis form factor, design based on strength dynamic and wear loads, Bearings: mechanism of fluid film lubrication, Journal bearing, rolling contact bearing.
